WHAT IS YOUR SURFLEVEL?

GET A BETTER VIEW ON YOUR CURRENT SURF LEVEL AND PERSONAL FOCUS POINTS.

I BREAK DOWN SURFING INTO 5 LEVELS TO GET A MORE DETAILED UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR CURRENT SKILLS. THIS WAY YOU CAN JOIN THE COACHING EXPERIENCE THAT SUITS YOUR WANTS AND NEEDS.

The terms “beginner”, “Intermediate” and “advanced” are in my eyes often unhelpful to accurately assess what kind of information and coaching you need.

That’s why I use these 5 levels to curate your coaching experience with me.

I focus my coaching only on level 2 surfers and above.

LEVEL 2 SURFER EXAMPLE.

(All examples given is just an estimation of the level.)

LEVEL 2

Level 2 surfers are surfing that have already graduated to surfing unbroken waves and can independently paddle out to the line-up, catch waves and stand up. If you can go down the line in waves up to headhigh relatively frequently then you are a level two surfer.

Level 2 surfers mostly need/want to work on:

1. Consistent wave catching (more waves)

2. Taking off on the wave with control

3. Popping up with control

4. Keeping speed down the line

5. Turning the board with control

LEVEL 3

Level 3 surfers are people who can paddle out in most conditions around headhigh waves and can do ‘horizontal maneuvres’ with frequent success. This means bottom- and topturns, cutbacks to the whitewater both backside and frontside are something that you have (incosistently) done before or are actively trying to learn.

Level 3 surfers mostly need/want to work on:

1. Bottom turns

2. Topturns

3. Cutbacks

4. Speed generation

5. Floaters

LEVEL 4

Level 4 surfers are working on vertical maneuvers in larger and more hollow surf. They are well experienced in most all types of conditions until overhead surf. They can control most of their bottom and topturns and are working on getting vertical snaps, lippers and getting more spray in the critical sections of the waves.

Level 4 surfers mostly need/want to work on:

1. Perfecting bottom- and topturns

2. Doing most turns in the pocket of the wave

3. Surfing larger and more hollow waves

4. Throwing more spray in turns

5. Barrel riding

LEVEL 5

Level 5 surfers have all earlier talked skills fully under control are often one of the best surfers in the line-up. They can surf well in any type of condition from knee-high to double overhead with confidence. Their maneuvers are much more detailed, their surfing looks almost effortless while they still throw loads of spray and have a faster pace on the wave then most people.

Level 5 surfers mostly need/want to work on:

1. Connecting turns with speed, power and flow

2. Seamless surfing from rail-to-rail

3. Perfecting timing, positioning and speed of maneuvers

4. Advanced maneuvers like airs, reverses and other tweaks

5. Possible contest surfing strategies
